Teen Therapy in Barrie and Newmarket
Virtual Support Across Ontario
What your teen be feeling:
It can be hard for teens to make sense of everything they’re carrying. They may feel overwhelmed by school pressure, friendships, social expectations, identity questions, or emotions that feel too heavy to hold alone.
Some teens shut down. Others react quickly. Some withdraw from the people they care about. Many want support but don’t yet know how to ask for it and that can feel scary for them and confusing for their parents.
Teen therapy creates a space where they don’t have to know what to say or how to say it. They can come exactly as they are.
How we support teens:
Therapy gives teens room to explore their thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels safe for them. We help with:
• anxiety or stress that feels overwhelming
• sadness, irritability, or mood changes
• friendship challenges or social worries
• identity and self esteem
• school pressure or academic burnout
• family conflict or communication difficulties
• emotional regulation and coping skills
• life transitions or big changes
Therapy for teens is never one-size-fits-all. We work with who they are, how they communicate, and what they feel ready to share.
Building trust, at their pace:
Trust takes time and we honour that. Teens are never rushed or pressured to share before they are ready. Sessions begin gently and focus on comfort, connection, and giving them choice. When a teen feels they have agency in the process, they naturally begin to open up.
Therapy can begin virtually if that feels easier for them and can shift to in person once they feel more grounded with their therapist. Many teens appreciate this gradual approach because it gives them room to settle in at their own pace.
What therapy looks like for teens:
Sessions focus on connection first. From there, we may explore:
• naming and understanding emotions
• learning to calm their body during intense moments
• building confidence and self awareness
• navigating friendships and communication
• understanding thoughts and managing stress
• boundaries and healthy coping
• preparing for transitions (school, post-secondary, family changes)
Confidentiality and autonomy is critical here, as a teen needs to feel that their sessions are truly for them.
Watching your teen struggle can be painful and confusing. You may worry about saying the wrong thing or not knowing how to help.
We support parents by helping you understand your teen’s emotional world, communication style, and what they might be experiencing internally. You’ll receive guidance on how to support them at home without adding pressure or overwhelm.
You are not expected to do this alone.
Support for parents too:
Teens often leave therapy feeling more grounded, better understood, and more equipped to handle difficult moments. Parents often share that communication improves, the home feels calmer, and their teen seems more connected to themselves.
Therapy doesn’t remove every challenge, but it can give your teen the tools and support needed to move through life with more confidence, clarity, and steadiness.
A message for parents It can be hard to watch your teen struggle and not know how to help. Your support matters deeply and therapy gives you a shared space to work through this chapter together. You are not expected to do this alone. Read more about parenting support here →
