Melanie Fuller
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
BA, MACP, RP(Q)Hi, I’m Melanie. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), and I work with children (7+), teens, young adults, and adults.
Sometimes you know exactly why you’re looking for therapy. Other times, you just know that something isn’t working anymore. You may be feeling anxious or overwhelmed, struggling in your relationships, questioning yourself, or noticing patterns that you keep falling back into despite your best efforts to change them. Therapy can give us a place to slow things down, understand what may be happening underneath the surface, and figure out what you need moving forward.
For parents, deciding whether your child needs therapy can come with a lot of uncertainty. Maybe your child seems more anxious, emotional, withdrawn, angry, or reactive lately. School or friendships may have become more difficult, their confidence may be changing, or you're seeing behaviours you don't quite know how to respond to. You may be wondering whether this is simply part of growing up or whether something more is going on. And sometimes, despite doing everything you can to support your child, you realize they may need a space of their own.
Working with children and youth has been an important part of my life for more than five years. Before becoming a therapist, I worked closely with young people in supportive and educational environments, including children with diverse emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs. That experience taught me to look beyond the behaviour itself and become curious about what a child may be communicating through it.
When working with younger clients, I adapt therapy to their age, personality, interests, and developmental needs. Children don't always have the words to explain what they're feeling, and therapy doesn't always need to look like sitting across from one another and talking. Where appropriate, I may incorporate play, creative activities, games, or other developmentally appropriate approaches to help children feel comfortable expressing themselves and making sense of their experiences.
I also work closely with teens and young adults navigating anxiety, self-esteem, friendships, relationships, school pressures, family expectations, identity, and the transition into adulthood. These years can come with an enormous amount of change and pressure. You may be trying to figure out who you are while simultaneously feeling like you're expected to already know. Therapy can be somewhere you don't have to perform, have the right answer, or have everything figured out.
Parenting itself can also be overwhelming. Supporting a child who is struggling can bring worry, frustration, guilt, disagreement between parents, and questions about whether you're responding in the "right" way. You may spend so much time thinking about what your child needs that there isn't much room left to notice how you're doing. I support parents and caregivers in making sense of family dynamics, understanding their child's needs, and navigating the emotional weight that can come with caring for someone else.
My work isn't limited to children and families. I also support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem concerns, relationship challenges, boundaries, major life transitions, or a general sense of feeling stuck. Sometimes what we're dealing with today connects to experiences and relationships that came much earlier. You may understand logically that a pattern isn't helping you and still find yourself repeating it. Therapy can help us become curious about not only what you're doing, but why it makes sense that you learned to do it in the first place.
I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. What works well for one person may feel completely wrong for another. My approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized, and I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on your needs, goals, personality, and experiences. Our work may include understanding patterns and emotions, exploring earlier experiences and relationships, strengthening emotional awareness, developing practical coping strategies, or finding different ways of responding to situations that continue to leave you feeling stuck.
I believe practical tools can be incredibly helpful, but therapy doesn't always need to be about immediately trying to change a thought, behaviour, or feeling. Sometimes we first need to understand where something came from, what purpose it may have served, and why it has been so difficult to change. From there, we can work toward changes that feel meaningful rather than simply trying to manage symptoms.
Above all, I want therapy to feel like a space where you can show up as you are. You don't need to have the right words, know exactly what's wrong, or arrive ready to change everything. My role is to meet you where you are with curiosity, compassion, and respect, while helping you better understand yourself and move toward what matters to you.
Whether you're a parent looking for support for your child, a teenager trying to make sense of what you're feeling, a young adult figuring out what comes next, or an adult realizing that something in your life needs to change, we can start with where you are today.
I offer a free, no-obligation 15-minute consultation so we can connect, talk briefly about what brings you to therapy, and see whether working together feels like the right fit.
